Islamabad: According to local media reports, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will visit the United Kingdom on September 18, where he will attend the funeral of British Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away on Thursday evening.
ARY News quoted sources as saying that before leaving for his visit to London on September 18, the Pakistani PM will visit Samarkand to attend the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organization to be held on September 15 and 16.
Sharif will then return to Pakistan and then travel two days later to London, where he will attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. He will also hold a meeting with political leaders during the visit, reports ARY News. Later, on September 19, Shahbaz Sharif will travel to New York to address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session on September 23.
“He will return to Pakistan after his UNGA address,” sources said.
Earlier on Friday, President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif separately visited the British High Commission and condoled the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the Express Tribune reported. He met British High Commissioner Christian Turner and expressed grief over the death of the Queen on behalf of the government and the people of Pakistan. Both the leaders also recorded their remarks in the condolence book kept in the High Commission.
“Her tragic passing marks the end of an era spanning a period of seven decades, which was characterized by Her Majesty’s beautiful service to the British people and the Commonwealth,” President Alvi wrote in the condolence book.
He further wrote, “His Majesty’s life was devoted to public service and she performed her duties with honor. I will always cherish my memory of seeing her as a 12-year-old when she came to Pakistan in 1961.”
“She was the epitome of chivalry, grace and dignity,” Alvi said.
Prime Minister Shahbaz wrote that apart from her services for the public interest, the queen remained a symbol of unity and brotherhood. It is noteworthy that on August 25, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had canceled his visit to London in view of the flood situation in the country.
