India and Pakistan are both US partners at different points, the Biden administration said on September 26, a day after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s visit. Logic behind latest US F-16 security aid questioned to Islamabad.

Referring to the argument made by the US that the F-16 Jeevika package is meant to fight terrorism, Mr Jaishankar had said that everyone knows where and against whom the F-16 fighter jets are used. In response to a question during an interaction with Indian-Americans, he said, “You are not fooling anyone by saying these things.”

“We don’t look at our relations with Pakistan, and on the other hand, we don’t look at our relations with India in relation to each other. These two are our partners, each with different points of view,” he said. Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters at his daily news conference.

“We see both of us as partners, because we have shared values in many respects. We have common interests in many matters. And our relationship with India is in itself. Our relationship with Pakistan stands on its own, ” They said.

Earlier this month, the Biden administration approved a $450 million F-16 fighter jet fleet maintenance program to Pakistan, reversing a previous Trump administration decision to provide Islamabad with safe haven for the Afghan Taliban and the Haqqani network. Military aid was suspended.

Responding to a question, Mr. Price said, “We want to do everything we can to make sure these neighbors have relationships with each other that are as constructive as possible. So that’s another point of emphasis.”

In response to another question, Mr Price said that “it is not in Pakistan’s interest to see instability and violence in Afghanistan”.

“Support for the people of Afghanistan is something that we discuss regularly with our Pakistani allies; our efforts to improve the lives and livelihoods and humanitarian conditions of the Afghan people, and to see that the Taliban meet their commitments. Let’s make it happen,” he said.

Pakistan is involved in many of these similar commitments: counter-terrorism commitments, commitments to a safe passage, commitments to the citizens of Afghanistan, Mr. Price said. “The reluctance or inability on the part of the Taliban to fulfill these commitments will also have significant implications for Pakistan”.

“Therefore, for this reason, we share many interests with Pakistan in relation to our neighbor,” Mr. Price said.

He said the United States was focusing on the devastation that resulted in the loss of lives in the torrential floods that devastated large areas of Pakistan.

He said, “We have provided millions of dollars in relief for these floods. The secretary will have additional details today about more US aid to the Pakistani people, in light of this humanitarian emergency that Pakistanis are facing. ” They said.
