An explosion was heard in the Wazir Akbar Khan area in the Afghan capital, Reuters confirmed by Interior Ministry spokesman Bismullah Habib. The blast was heard near an area of the capital, once the city’s ‘green zone’, where several foreign embassies and NATO were located. It is now under the control of the ruling Taliban.
TOLOnews reported that the explosion shook Afghanistan’s capital, when worshipers were leaving the mosque, adding that the number of casualties was not yet known.
There have been several deadly explosions at mosques during Friday prayers in recent months, some of which are claimed by Islamic State.
