A factory in China is engaged in flying the British flag

Ninety minutes after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, thousands of British flags began to flood a factory south of Shanghai.

More than 100 employees of Shaoxing Chuangdong Tour Articles Company set aside other chores and create nothing but British-themed flags on 14-hour days from 7.30am.

According to General Manager Fan Epping, they turned out at least 500,000 in the first week.

There are some British flags that are carried by mourners or hung outside homes. Others show portraits of Elizabeth and the years of her birth and death. They range from 21 to 150 centimeters wide and in bulk for about 7 yuan ($1) each.

The first customer sent an order at 3 o’clock.

Chinese time for tens of thousands, according to Fan. She said that 20,000 was in stock at the factory that morning was shipped out.

“Customers came directly to our factory to grab the products,” Fan said. “Many flags were not even packed. They were put in a box and shipped. ,

Before Elizabeth’s death the factory was making flags for the Football World Cup.

Chuangdong has been in the industry since 2005 and produces flags for the World Cup and other sporting events or national day celebrations. It also makes sports-themed scarves and banners.

Employees pay attention to news of events that may bring order. “Behind every news event is a business opportunity,” Fan said.

An employee since 2005, Ni Guozhen said she learned about the world through her work.

“I learned a lot about current events,” said Ni, who was sewing flags with a portrait of the Queen. “My knowledge has grown. That’s why I am proud and happy that I am making flags.”

Nee remembers filling orders for British-themed flags for a royal wedding.

“There’s a story behind every flag,” said the fan. “This time it’s about the Queen in the United Kingdom. They’re buying these flags to deeply mourn the Queen.”
