  1. Rice Dal Chila

material:

  • Rice – 100 grams (pre-soaked)
  • Urad dal – 100 grams (pre-soaked)
  • water – 100 ml
  • Chopped Ginger – 1 tsp
  • Cumin – 1/2 tsp
  • Baking soda – 1 pinch
  • Chopped coriander – 2 tsp
  • Salt – 1 tsp
  • Chopped Onion – 1
  • water – 100 ml
  • Cooking oil – 1/4 tsp

method:

In the grinder, add pre-soaked rice, pre-soaked urad dal and water. Grind to a smooth paste. Transfer to a mixing bowl.

Add chopped ginger, chopped green chili, cumin, baking soda, chopped coriander, salt and chopped onion. Mix well. Add water and mix well.

Pour a tablespoon of this mixture on a pan greased with cooking oil. Spread like a dosa.

Cook on low/medium flame and cook from both the sides by turning it twice. And your delicious Cheela is ready to be served.

2. Tomato Chila

material:

  • chopped tomatoes – 2
  • Chopped Ginger – 1 tbsp
  • Dry Kashmiri Chillies – 2
  • Semolina – 50 grams
  • Rice flour – 100 grams
  • Wheat flour – 50 grams
  • Black pepper – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt – 1/2 tsp
  • Chopped coriander – 1 tbsp
  • Chopped Onion – 1
  • Cooking oil – 1/4 tsp

method:

Put chopped tomatoes, chopped ginger and dry Kashmiri chili in a blender. Blend in a soft batter and pour into a mixing bowl.

– Add semolina, rice flour, wheat flour, black pepper, cumin, salt, chopped coriander and chopped onion and keep aside for 15-20 minutes after mixing well.

Heat a pan and grease it with some oil. Add the batter of a ladle and spread it to make cheela.

Pour some oil over the cheela. After cooking from one side, turn it over and cook from the other side as well. And cheela is ready to be served with fresh chutney.

3. Italian Cheese Chila

material:

  • 100 grams soaked moong dal
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • salt to taste
  • 4 tbsp besan
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 tbsp Mix Herbs
  • 25 grams paneer
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves
  • 1 tbsp oil

method:

In a blender add moong dal, cumin, black pepper, salt, gram flour and blend it well.

Add chopped onion, chopped tomato, chopped coriander, mixed herbs, paneer to the batter.

Heat a pan, add oil and a tablespoon of the mixture and spread it well, cook till it becomes crisp and golden from both the sides.

– It’s ready! Pack it with mayonnaise or chutney.

4. Spinach Moong Dal Cheela

material:

  • 3/4 cup yellow moong dal
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped spinach
  • 1 tsp green chili paste
  • 1/2 tsp ginger paste
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida (hing)
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder (turmeric)
  • 1/2 tsp coarsely crushed cumin seeds
  • salt to taste
  • cooking oil

method:

In a deep bowl add yellow moong dal and enough water and soak for 2 hours. Dry well.

– Grind in a mixer with cup of water until smooth.

Transfer the mixture into a deep bowl, add all the remaining ingredients and cook approx. cup water and mix well.

Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and grease it with a little oil. Pour a spoonful of batter on it and spread it in circular motion to make 175 mm. (7″) diameter circle.

Cook on medium heat for 1 minute. Grease it with a little oil on the top and sides.

Turn over and cook on the other side as well. Cook the cheela on medium flame till the cheela turns brown in color and crisp. Serve immediately with green chutney.

5. Oats Dal Cheela

material:

  • 1/2 cup masoor dal (red lentils)
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 2-3 garlic
  • 1-2 green chilies (according to taste)
  • finely chopped onion
  • Coriander chopped (optional)
  • salt to taste
  • A pinch of baking soda (optional, but recommended)
  • Water as required (I have used 1/2 cup +3-4 tbsp)

method:

Soak lentils and oats overnight.

Strain the water and add garlic and green chilies and salt and grind them till smooth.

– Add finely chopped onion and green coriander and mix well. Just before making it, add a pinch of baking soda and mix well.

Pour the batter on a hot pan and make it like dosa or cheela with a ladle.

Apply some oil on top and let it cook on medium flame. Cook the other over. Cheela is ready to be served with chutney of your choice.
