Varkala police on Friday arrested a man on charges of attempt to murder his wife. The accused has been identified as 34-year-old Santhosh, a resident of Raghunathpuram.
According to the police, Santosh, a carpenter, reached home in an intoxicated state around noon. After a fight with his wife, the 34-year-old, he allegedly bit her, causing injuries to her arm and thigh. The companion, who is handicapped, was unable to move and call for help.
His 11-year-old son later found him bleeding on the floor and called for help. He was admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital here. Later, Santosh was taken into custody.
In another incident within the limits of the same police station, a 48-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a youth, who had allegedly gone to the former’s house to meet his 17-year-old daughter.
According to the police, a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act in 2019 based on the complaint of the youth. The proceedings for the hearing of the case had started recently. The youth, who was released on bail, was found at home on Friday afternoon.
The father allegedly attacked her with an ax, causing head and hand injuries. Later the police took the father into custody. The injured youth has been admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital here.
