Devaswom Minister K. With the COVID-19 situation under control, Radhakrishnan said here on Wednesday that more pilgrims are expected to visit Sabarimala during the Mandala-Makaravilakku festival season this year.
Presiding over a meeting to review the arrangements for the festival, he directed the officials to complete the remaining works to receive the influx of pilgrims. It was decided in the meeting to complete the repair and maintenance work of all roads leading to Sabarimala and the bathing ghats and to make arrangements for supply of safe drinking water before the commencement of the festival.
While the Food Safety Department has been directed to ensure the quality of food items, the KSRTC will operate services for the pilgrims and the Health Department will equip all government hospitals in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Idukki districts. Police officers will be posted on special duty.
This year the pilgrimage will follow the green protocol. Where pilgrims congregate, separate bins for organic and non-biodegradable waste will be installed.
The meeting was attended by Thomas Chazhikadan MP, MLA, Travancore Devaswom Board President K. Anandagopan, members of local bodies and officials of the department were present.
