He said that in the letter of the Ministry of Defense, various State Governments, Central Ministries and Departments have been invited to participate in the Republic Day Parade on January 26 by making a tableau by choosing one of these three themes or a combination of all three.

The government, which is celebrating 75 years of India’s independence, has proposed that the tableau of India@75 should include India’s freedom struggle, its achievements, actions and resolves over the last seven decades.

The theme of marking a day of millet has its roots in 2021 when India proposed to the United Nations to declare 2023 as the International Year of Millet (IYOM). India’s proposal got the support of 72 countries and the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets.

In fact, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has already constituted a core committee to mark the occasion and six task forces to ensure on-ground implementation of policies to boost millet production and supply in the country. has been constituted, the officials said.

The concerned departments are to submit their proposals to the Ministry of Defense by 30 September along with the considered proposals and brief accounts.

The Defense Ministry’s letter also said that it has constituted a committee of eminent persons from various fields of art to help shortlist the best proposals.

The ministry also said that each tableau should include electronic display walls, dynamic elements using mechatronics/robotics, 3D printing for bright display of images or content. It should use eco-friendly materials and avoid the use of plastics and plastic based products as far as possible and also recommend the use of special effects to the maximum extent possible to improve the optics/visual effects of the tableau.

Last year’s Republic Day tableau was embroiled in controversy with several opposition states crying out for not being selected for the parade. The tableau of Uttar Pradesh was adjudged as the best tableau among the 12 states/UTs that participated in the Republic Day Parade on 26 January this year.
