MoRTH makes 58 RTO services online based on Aadhaar authentication

With the help of Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis, 58 citizen-centric services related to driving license, vehicle registration and transfer of ownership can now be availed online.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) said on September 17 that providing such services in a contactless and faceless manner will save citizens significant time and reduce their compliance burden.

As a result, the number of people visiting the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) is likely to come down significantly, leading to greater efficiency in their functioning.

Online services for which a citizen is required to undergo Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis include application for learner’s license, issue of duplicate driving license and renewal of driving license which does not require test of ability to drive. .

Apart from this, online services include issuance of International Driving Permit, change of address in conductor’s license, application for transfer of ownership of motor vehicle among others, for which a citizen has to undergo Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis.

As per the notification issued by the ministry on September 16, any person who does not have an Aadhaar number can avail such service in physical form by establishing identity by physically submitting the optional documents with the concerned authority as per CMVR 1989.
