Many missing including government school students due to boat capsizing in Brahmaputra

A government official and school students have gone missing after a boat carrying several passengers capsized in Assam’s Brahmaputra river. Dhubri officials said on Thursday.

Locals claimed that around 100 passengers were traveling on the boat and that 10 motorcycles were loaded on it.
The Bhasani-bound boat collided with a bridge post at Adabari, about three kilometers from Dhubri town, and overturned, an official said.

He said several school children were on board and no one has been rescued so far. Dhubri Circle Officer Sanju Das, along with a land records officer and an office worker, were traveling on a boat to survey an erosion-affected area.

Das is missing, while two others managed to swim.

The local people started the rescue operation with country boats.

State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) divers have also been deployed Guwahati Told.
