Mamata Banerjee’s message to Mahua Moitra: ‘Stay connected to your field’

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asked Trinamool Congress’s Krishnanagar Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra to focus on her constituency and not go beyond her constituency. Discussing the TMC’s situation in Nadia district, Mahua Moitra’s home ground, Mamata Banerjee during a meeting on Friday asked Mahua Moitra to drop Murshidabad MP Abu Taher from Karimpur in Nadia district.

“Karimpur is no longer the jurisdiction of Mahua. Abu Tahir will take care of Karimpur. Abu Tahir will take care of it. You take care of your Lok Sabha seat and that area.” Mamata Banerjee said Karimpur, which was Mahua Moitra’s assembly seat before she became a Lok Sabha MP, “is not your place”.

The West Bengal Chief Minister said, ‘Mahua, you have to work with him and give time. Whether someone should be given a post or not is not your thing. How we will accommodate everyone, that party will decide. But you should give time to the party.”

Back in July, when a controversy erupted after Mahua Moitra’s remarks of Goddess Kali, TMC MP unfollowed his party The party made a statement after the party distanced itself from his comments on Twitter.

During a conclave, Mahua Moitra said that she has every right to worship Goddess Kali as a “meat eater and wine acceptor” as every person has the right to worship the Lord in his own way.

“If you go to Bhutan or Sikkim, for example, when they worship, they give whiskey to their god. Now, if you go to Uttar Pradesh and say you give whiskey as prasad to your god If you give, they will say that it is blasphemy,” he argued.

Mahua Moitra further added, “For me, Goddess Kali is the meat-eater and the one who accepts alcohol. And if you visit Tarapith (a major Shakti Peeth in West Bengal’s Birbhum district), you will see sadhus smoking. That’s the version. Kali people worship (there). I have a right to imagine Kali in this way, within Hinduism, as a Kali worshipper, that’s my freedom.”

“I have the liberty to do it.”

Responding to the comments, Mamata Banerjee said, “People make mistakes but they can be rectified.”

ANI quoted Mamata Banerjee as saying, “We make mistakes while working but they can be corrected. Some people don’t see all the good work and suddenly start screaming. Negativity affects our brain cells. So think positive.”

Later TMC also distanced itself from the comment. It said they are “not supported by the party in any manner or form”.
