Lalbagh land dispute: inquiry will be handed over to Lokayukta

Horticulture Minister Muniratna on Tuesday announced that the government would hand over the investigation of claims on the land adjacent to Lalbagh to the Lokayukta before taking a decision on the ownership.

The announcement was made in the Legislative Council when he was replying to a question by Janata Dal Secular member KA Thippeswamy. Presently, Hopcoms owns 2.08 acres of land.

“The said land is being used by HOPCOMS since 1980. Mumbai-based Karishma Builders has gone to court regarding ownership in 2017,” the minister said, adding that documents have started coming out from 2013 itself.

Shri Muniratna said that while there are different claimants for the land, the Waqf Board has also submitted a claim.

Clarifying that HOPCOMS has not illegally occupied the land, he said that the revenue records in BBMP show that the land belongs to the government.
