Chandigarh Hostel Video Leaked: From Protest to Arrest – Here’s What Happened So Far

New Delhi: Amidst the Chandigarh Hostel video leak that shook the country, 3 people arrested in the case have been sent on 7-day police remand. The court has been remanded to police custody for a week on Monday while his mobile phone and some related videos will be examined by a forensic team.

Here is a timeline of all the developments in the Chandigarh video leak case:

  • At Chandigarh University on Sunday (September 24), massive protests erupted after videos of around 60 girls taking a bath in a hostel were leaked.
  • Soon, social media posts claimed that several girls attempted suicide after their videos were leaked online.
  • Mohali Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amit Talwar rubbished the claims of students’ suicide attempt as “rumours”.
  • After preliminary investigation, the police arrested a 23-year-old student, her alleged boyfriend from Himachal Pradesh and another 31-year-old man from Himachal Pradesh.
  • Chandigarh University in Punjab’s Mohali has been closed for students till September 24, university sources said on Monday (September 19).
  • Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had on September 19 ordered a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) of police officers to probe the case.
  • The SIT team will be under the supervision of senior IPS officer Gurpreet Kaur Dev.

Amid the protests, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) GS Bhullar spoke to the troubled students late on Sunday night and tried to pacify them by saying “inherent trust is necessary” and “law is being followed”.

DIG GS Bhullar said, “We will keep coming to you, implicit trust is necessary.”

DIG Bhullar told ANI that earlier there was a communication gap, which the police is trying to bridge.

DIG Bhullar said, “The issue is communication gap. We are giving clarifications time and again. We are assuring the students that law is being followed and all legal procedures are being done.”
