The prime minister’s flight landed around the same time that other SCO leaders were at a dinner hosted by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, whose country is the organization’s current president. Modi was received by the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov at Samarkand airport.
Modi is attending the summit on Friday along with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi.
This is the first in-person SCO summit since the leaders gathered in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan in June 2019.
