CPI(M) leader says agitation will start against Modi government in Bihar too

pitching for Opposition unity against Narendra Modi government in the center, Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) He said on Thursday that all Left and secular forces will come together against the BJP in the 2024 general elections. He was addressing a public meeting at Gandhi Maidan in Patna as part of the party’s nationwide anti-BJP campaign.

Citing the example of the movement against the Indira Gandhi government that started with Jai Prakash Narayan’s call for a complete revolution in Patna, Mr Yechury said that the movement against the Modi government would also start in Bihar. He said, ‘Today again the time has come to save democracy, secularism, constitution and the country from BJP-RSS. All Left and secular forces in Bihar and across India will come together and mobilize people to remove the Modi regime in 2024. Like 1974, the road to Indraprastha will again start from Pataliputra,” Mr Yechury said at the rally.

Mr Yechury had met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Wednesday. talking to Hindu Before the rally, Mr Yechury said the concept of opposition unity was not limited to pre-poll alliances. We have to fight the BJP in every state. But at the national level, we will have a coordinated and cohesive campaign.” He also praised Mr. Prasad for being the only non-Left and non-Congress party to consistently oppose right-wing forces.

The party’s Bihar in-charge Ashok Dhawale said the Centre’s policies led to astronomical price rise, unemployment, poverty and hunger and they attacked the working class, farmers, agricultural workers, women, youth and students.

“This [the Modi Government] Shamelessly selling the country to fellow corporates, and using the British imperialist policy of ‘divide and rule’ on the basis of religion and caste,” Mr Dhawale said.
