‘Aag Lagao Yatra’: Political ruckus after Congress’s tweet

New Delhi: A major political controversy erupted on Monday (September 12, 2022) after the Congress took a dig at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and posted a picture of it burning khaki shorts on its social media handle amid the Bharat Jodi Yatra. In the picture posted, an RSS dress is on fire and smoke is rising from it.

The party also shared the graphics on Twitter and wrote with the caption, “To free the nation from the shackles of hatred and reduce the damage done by BJP-RSS. Step by step, we will reach our goal. #BharatJodo Travel.”

BJP’s Sambit Patra reacted to the tweet and said, “This is not ‘Bharat Jodi Yatra’ but ‘Bharat Todo’ and ‘Aag Lagao Yatra’. This is not the first time the Congress party has done this.” “I want to ask Rahul Gandhi do you want violence in this country? Congress should remove this picture immediately.”

Meanwhile, senior leader Jairam Ramesh on Monday said a strong Congress is an important pillar of opposition unity and its allies should understand that the party will not allow itself to weaken. Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, he said the ‘Bharat Jodi Yatra’ has infused new energy in the party organization and claimed that the BJP has been stunned by the public response.

Ramesh said the purpose of the yatra is to strengthen the Congress, which is important for opposition unity.

He said, ‘I am happy that after the Bharat Jodi Yatra, everyone has seen that the elephant has woken up, the elephant is moving forward and all the parties are seeing what the Congress is doing.

The Bharat Jodi Yatra of Congress continued for the sixth day on Monday in the Kerala phase, which will last for 19 days. Party leader Rahul Gandhi visited a local resident’s house in Kerala on the fifth day of the Bharat Jodi Yatra campaign.

Taking to Twitter, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared a picture with local residents, in the photo caption he mentioned that he interacted with people over a cup of tea.

His tweet read, “Today there was a lot of talk at Ratish’s house over evening tea and got a lot of love. Every family gathers like this every evening. Our India is also a family.”

The 3,500 km march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir will be completed in 150 days and will cover 12 states. From Kerala, the yatra will pass through the state for the next 18 days, reaching Karnataka on 30 September. It will be over Karnataka for 21 days before moving northwards. The padyatra (March) will cover a distance of 25 km per day.

According to the Congress, the ‘Bharat Jodi Yatra’ is being organized to counter the divisive politics of the BJP-led Centre, and to make the people of the country aware of the dangers of economic inequalities, social polarization and political centralisation.
