High Blood Sugar: Can Eating Junk Food Give You Diabetes? Tips to control high blood sugar

high blood sugar: Junk food has very few nutrients and is high in calories. Junk food is usually processed and high in saturated fat. They are expected to contain fewer vitamins, minerals and fiber. Additionally, junk food often contains large amounts of added sugar and is loaded with saturated and trans fats.

Processed sugars, however, can result in being digested more quickly, raising blood sugar levels and increasing levels of bad cholesterol.

A person’s body cells can develop insulin resistance if they have an excessive amount of body fat, especially in the midsection. When the body’s cells are unable to use insulin properly, the pancreas interprets this as a need for more insulin and begins to produce more of it.

Eventually, the pancreas will wear out and stop producing enough insulin to maintain normal blood sugar levels. Because of this, diabetes, which is characterized by high blood sugar levels, develops.

effects of eating junk food

Highly processed foods are quickly digested by the body and can cause a rapid rise in blood sugar levels.

People who eat junk food may gain weight, increase their risk of type 2 diabetes due to their poor nutritional value and tendency to overeat.

Junk food contains large amounts of trans and saturated fat, which can increase the level of triglyceride in the body – a type of fat found in the blood. High triglyceride levels increase the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Junk food contains high sodium (salt) content, which contributes to high blood pressure. An increased risk of type 2 diabetes is also associated with high blood pressure.

Diabetes and sugar levels can be managed by eating:

Moderate amounts of complete, unprocessed carbohydrates from foods including vegetables, fruits, and whole grains high in fiber.
