Prime Minister Narendra Modi flags off Vande Bharat 2.0 train: Check top speed, features here – all you need to know

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the third Vande Bharat Express for the country, which runs between the state capitals of Maharashtra and Gujarat. The Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat is the country’s third semi-high-speed train, and will reduce the total travel time by a fair margin. However, the first Vande Bharat Express was flagged off on 15 February between Delhi and Varanasi with stoppages at Kanpur and Allahabad as well. According to PM Modi’s speech on Independence Day last year, a total of 75 such trains will be run in the country to connect many parts of the country. Also, the new train is the updated iteration called Vande Bharat 2.0, and here is all about it.

Vande Bharat Express 2.0: Top Speed

The updated version of the semi-high-speed train has a top speed of 160 kmph, and takes 129 seconds to reach this speed. It can achieve higher speeds due to faster acceleration and deceleration and will reduce travel time from 25 per cent to 45 per cent. For example, the scheduled commute between New Delhi and Varanasi will take about eight hours, making it 40-50 per cent faster than the fastest train connecting these two cities.

The first Vande Bharat Express running between Delhi and Varanasi was flagged off. The country’s first semi-high speed train has also stopped in Allahabad and Kanpur. The second Vande Bharat train was started between Delhi and Shri Vaishno Devi Mata, Katra. The third will now run between Mumbai and Gandhinagar. Soon, another Vande Bharat Express train will run from Khajuraho, as revealed by India’s Railway Minister – Ashwini Vaishnav.

Vande Bharat Express 2.0: Safety Features

The semi-high-speed train uses Kavach (Train Collision Avoidance System) for better operational safety. Also, every coach of Vande Bharat train has four emergency windows. In addition, it has four platform side cameras, including rearview cameras on the outside of the coach, instead of the first two.

Enhanced Level-II Safety Integration Certification has been obtained on the new coaches for better control. Also, Vande Bharat 2.0 follows safety compliance with improved fire safety measures that use aerosol-based fire detectors and suppression systems in toilets and electrical rooms.

While the train will have a total of four emergency lights in each coach to assist passengers in case of emergency exit during power failure, it will be able to withstand flooding up to a height of 650 mm as against 400 mm. ,
