DoT has set October 20 deadline on the draft bill

Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on September 23, 2022 that the new telecom bill is expected to come in 6-10 months, but the government is in no hurry.

“Based on the consultation process, we will prepare the final draft. That draft will then go through the committee procedures of Parliament. Then it (Parliament) has to go. I see a time-frame of 6-10 months, but we are not in a hurry, When asked about the timeline for implementing the final bill, Mr. Vaishnav said.

The DoT has set October 20 as the deadline for the draft bill.

The bill seeks to replace three laws: Indian Telegraph Act, 1885The Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933 And this Telegraph Wire (Unlawful Possession) Act, 1950,

However, to ensure smooth transition to the new framework and avoid any possible disruption, the Bill provides for continuity of action taken under the repealed laws.

It also provides that the rules under the repealed laws will continue till new rules are framed.
