Whitefield cybercrime police are trying to trace a man who created an email account in the name of the chief executive officer of Flipkart, to mail customers asking for details.
An employee of the company Rajesh K. On the basis of the complaint lodged by the CEO, the police on Tuesday registered an FIR against the accused under various sections of the IT Act.
In his complaint, Mr Rajesh said that the accused created email@example.com and mailed customers, posing as CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy, earlier this month seeking their personal and financial details.
The incident came to light after a customer confirmed it to the company. This is an attempt to malign the image of the company, Mr Rajesh alleged in his complaint.
The police, which started the investigation, said that the fake email ID was generated from Nigeria. A police officer said, “We are trying to trace the person through other technical inputs.
It may be recalled that a similar incident had come to light in 2016, where an email ID was created in the name of the then CEO of Flipkart by hackers to defraud $80,000 from the company’s account.
